Potty Training Macey

Yes, it's true! I would consider her officially potty trained. I want to make sure everyone knows that i ONLY started because the past month Macey has been trying to copy the 3 year old I watch every day by getting onto the stool and putting the little seat that goes on the potty for her to fit and then trying to sit on the potty, all by herself. Ever since she was tiny i always brought her potty with me because I didn't want to leave her alone. Then as she got older she would always just follow me and/or Jesse to the potty. Macey was ready but I never would have thought you could potty train a 14 month old! Last Wednesday I decided just to try, if she didn't want to or couldn't understand it then that would be fine, i didn't care at all if that's what she wanted because she's so young. Also I didn't want to ignore what she was noticing about going potty for a year because I'm sure it would just be harder to try to get her to care again.

All of the best success stories I had been around you would let the baby run around the house with no pants so he/she could see what was happening. The first day she peed on the floor like every 15 min and every time i would rush her over to the potty. So then we got in the habit of just taking her to the potty and waiting for her to pee in it, she did 5 times on Wednesday! But numerous times on the floor.

Then Thursday was hard....she peed every 20 minutes and the whole day she only peed 2 times on the potty. So then I was thinking well maybe she isn't ready after all but the method I was using said it takes 3 days to be able to tell if they are ready or not so I talked to Jake about it and he said thought maybe she wasn't ready either but I should just try one more day but if it was too much then just forget about it.

So Friday I was worried, I took her every 20 min to the potty, sometimes she would pee, sometimes she wouldn't. If she didn't I would only wait 10 min before going back to the potty. She peed 6 times in the potty by noon on Friday and she hadn't gone on the floor at all! We were excited! She ended up only peeing on the floor twice that day!

Saturday we had planned to go out that night, I didn't think she would feel comfortable enough to go pee somewhere other than at home but church was the next day so she had to get used to it sometime...Macey ended up having 3 accidents that day which was great for being away from home most of the day! We put her in a pull up and pants while we were gone so she wouldn't be peeing on other people's floors :) I also noticed that she would only pee every other time we brought her to the potty, so about every hour. So that was good, that meant she could hold it longer and longer.

Now Sunday, which is today, Macey did have one accident but we were gone most of the day. BUT the last time she has gone she will bring us to the bath room and tell us by saying "pa" that she needs to go potty! And for the past 2 days we don't have to sit and read a book and wait for her to go, if she has to go it only takes a couple seconds and she will go! And she can wear pants now around the house so next time we're out shopping she gets some cute tiny little undies :)

If Macey ever fussed or didn't want to get on the potty we would take her off and distract her then 5 min later put her back on when she was in a better mood, we really didn't want it to be us making her. We also made it very positive, we never got on to her about peeing on the floor, we just said Macey pee goes in the potty. And when she did go pee in the potty she would get a little treat! It was a long few days, especially the first three. I've had to sit on the floor just waiting and singing and reading more than I have my whole life put together probably! But it was worth it! I know it's only been 5 days and potty training takes months to perfect but I think Macey is off to a good start.
